Beyond the Sanctuary

UMMBC maintains a strong commitment to outreach and service. We believe that we have been called to be a “people of service”. Our ministry of service is how we become the hands and feet of Jesus in the world. We, the United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church, are committed to bearing witness to God’s love in the world through


the power and presence of the Holy Spirit. Our church is committed to service and missions both locally and abroad.

  • Health and Wellness Ministry

    Ministry Mission 

    To establish intergenerational, God-centered programs that foster healthy (spiritual, mental, physical 

    and intellectual) growth and wellness of the UMMBC congregation and its surrounding community.

     

    Ministry Vision 

    A Healthy UMMBC community by providing sustainable educational and preventive activities that 

    promote health and wellness across the life cycle through coordination among various church 

    ministries and community partnerships. 


    Proposed Activities

    1. February – Heart Health – Go Red (Cardiovascular)     
    2. March – National Colo-Rectal Cancer Awareness/ Diabetes Alert  
    3. April – Finalize Work Plan- Ministry’s Activity Calendar
    4. May – Mental Health Awareness  - Depression/ Isolation of Older Adults – partner with Twin City Medical Society  - Aging Well - Walk with a Doc [Dr. Amber Brooks and Dr. Vernon Ross (Lead contacts)]
    5. July – National Cancer Awareness and Screening
    6. August – Teen Health - Dating /Violence/ Athletic Bra Drive (Partner with Youth Ministry and/or Girl/Boy Scotts)
    7. September – Infant Mortality Walk
    8. October – “Pink Sunday” Cancer Survivors Recognition

     

    Recurring Ministry Activities

    • Educational Activities - Sharing information on health promotion and awareness through printed media such as flyers, brochures, informational sessions and other means

    • Yearly orientations/updates for ushers and other ministries as requested, i.e., H&W emergency assistance protocols and equipment usage. 

    • Medical Supplies Acquisitions -  Maintaining medical/first aid equipment through quarterly Equipment checks (AEDs,B/P machines, Pulse oximetry, battery replacement, Band-Aids, ice packs, etc.)

    • Health Monitoring - Providing semi-annual BMI/B/P checks; AED and CPR instructions

    • Intrachurch support - Assisting ushers with emergency medical occurrences at church services

    • Community Resources connections - Encouraging healthy living options for members by partnering with community agencies

    Ministry Mission Statement

    The mission is to strive to spread the Good News to those both locally and abroad, through word and deed.

     

    Ministry Vision Statement

    The vision is to exalt God’s holy name and to be equipped by the Holy Spirit for needed service to

    those in need. Our vision includes presenting the gospel to unbelievers so that they will become

    believers in Jesus Christ.

    2. Valentine’s Day cards to sick and shut in
    3. Easter bags, Christmas gifts, Thanksgiving meals for sick and shut in
    4. Mother’s Day gifts for women at church and cards for sick and shut in
    5. Father’s Day gifts for men at church and cards for sick and shut in
    6. Crisis Control outreach project
    7. Salvation Army project
    8. Camp Hanes project (Send a kid to camp)
    9. Second Harvest Food Bank project
    10. Panel Discussion project greeters
    11. Voters Registration
    12. Christmas Gathering
    13. Collaborate with Welcome committee on projects

    The Special Needs Ministry’s vision is to extend the church’s mission to go beyond the sanctuary by

    engaging the community through outreach.

    The Ministry’s vision is to engage UMMBC’s Christ-centered biblically grounded, intergenerational

    community for benevolence and service.

     

    Proposed Activities

    • Interviews with those in need
    • Preparing care packages for college students
    • Providing support for foster children and unhoused students
