Under the direction of the After School Discovery Director of United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church (UMMBC), the teacher is responsible for supervising and leading activities to engage children in play and learning, while ensuring standards of health and safety are met.
Responsibilities
Lead educational, age-appropriate and Christian-valued activities for children
Prepares lessons and materials for student instruction
Actively engage with students
Maintain health, safety and cleanliness standards of UMMBC
Provide superior customer service to parents and their children
Implement grade level appropriate curriculum to support and challenge students
Supervises students in classroom, hall, and any other environments of the church
Presents subject matter to students using agreed upon methods of delivery (whole group, small groups, and/or individual support)
Maintain accurate records relating to attendance and finances (collecting funds)
Communicate appropriately with other staff members, parents and students in a positive manner
Attend staff meetings and complete all the required trainings
Participates in the daily bus, car and van transportation duties involving children’s arrival and departure to and from the church and on field trips
Assist with other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum of 20 years of age
College Associate’s degree or 36 college credit hours
Prior experience working with children or in a related field preferred
Ability to work well with children of various ages and abilities
Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
Ability to work with students and maintain confidentiality
Willingness to maintain a flexible schedule
Capable of working as a team player
Ability to maintain safe environment
Physical Requirements
Ability to walk, stand, and sit for long periods of time
Ability to lift and/or assist children up to 50 pounds in weight
Ability to lift and carry supplies weighing up to 20 pounds
Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time
Requires bending, pulling, kneeling, walking, and pushing
Excellent verbal and written communication to children, staff and parents
Visual and auditory ability to supervise and respond to critical situations with children
Pay Rate: $25/hour, _ hours/day
